What Are School Site Acquisition Charges?
In British Columbia, School Site Acquisition Charges (SSACs) are now required by the Province to help pay for the acquisition of new school sites needed as a result of new residential development. A SSAC is a charge per dwelling unit paid by residential developers throughout the School District. The charge is collected by local governments at either the time of subdivision or building permit and is transferred to school boards.
Background Information
- The DRAFT School District No. 60 Eligible School Sites Proposal (ESSP) (PDF) is a comprehensive report providing the context and rational for the School District’s proposed SSAC program. It walks readers through the proposed SSAC program step by step.
- An interactive SSAC Calculator (XLSX) that gives stakeholders and residents the opportunity to calculate applicable SSACs based on different residential development scenarios.
NOTE: copies of the Eligible School Sites Proposal (ESSP) and the School District’s SSAC Calculator will be available at the presentation and workshop.
We look forward to meeting with you and gaining your input on this important matter.
