Letter to Parents Regarding BCTF Strike Action

March 1, 2012

Dear Parents:

As of this morning the BC Teachers’ Federation has served notice teachers will be escalating their strike action by withdrawing all services as of Monday, March 5, 2012, through to the end of Wednesday, March 7, 2012. As Monday was already scheduled to be a non-instructional day, the full impact of this decision will be felt in our district Tuesday, March 6th.

Without teachers, schools will be unable to offer a full program of instruction or adequate levels of supervision. In the interest of student safety, parents are asked not to drop children off at schools during this phase of job action. Buses will not run on Monday and may not run on the other two strike days. Onsite day cares and Strong Starts will remain open and will operate as normal.

The provincial government is proposing legislation that once passed, will bring this strike to an end. Information about when service will return to normal, bus runs, or any future job action days will be provided through the local media and our school district website www.prn.bc.ca.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

Sincerely

Larry Espe
Superintendent of Schools
