Fort St John – May 14th, 2024 – Rotary is proud to announce its partnership with Northern Health, School District 59, School District 60, the University of Northern British Columbia, and Northern Lights College for a collaborative three-day project aimed at exploring careers in healthcare.

Scheduled to take place from May 13th -15th, this initiative seeks to inspire and educate students about the wide array of opportunities available within the healthcare sector. Through interactive workshops, presentations, and hands-on activities, participants will gain valuable insights into various healthcare professions, including nursing, medicine, allied health, and administration.

“Rotary is committed to supporting youth development and fostering community engagement,” said Kris Olsen, President Sunrise Rotary Club. “By joining forces with our partners in healthcare and education, we aim to empower students to explore their interests and aspirations while contributing to the future of healthcare.”

The project will provide students with the opportunity to interact with healthcare professionals, ask questions, and learn about the skills and competencies required for different roles in the healthcare field. Participants will also receive guidance on educational pathways and career development opportunities.

“We are excited to collaborate with Rotary, Northern Health, and our educational partners to offer this experience to students,” said Catherine Leroux, District Principal at School District 59. “This initiative aligns with our mission to prepare students for success in a rapidly evolving world and to inspire them to pursue rewarding careers that make a positive impact on society.”

The University of Northern British Columbia and Northern Lights College will play integral roles in providing resources, expertise, and mentorship throughout the project. Faculty members and students from various healthcare disciplines will engage with participants, sharing their experiences and insights into the healthcare profession.

“We are delighted to support this initiative and to engage with students who are interested in exploring healthcare careers,” said Bruce Denis, Campus Development Liaison and Operations Manager at the University of Northern British Columbia. “Through collaboration and mentorship, we aim to inspire the next generation of healthcare leaders and innovators.”

Northern Health encourages students, educators, and community members to participate in this exciting opportunity to learn about the diverse career paths within the healthcare sector.
