The following letter to parents is from the Superintendent of Schools.
June 12, 2014
Dear Parents:
On June 11th, the BC Teachers’ Federation served notice that as part of their job action teachers will be withdrawing their services effective Monday June 16, 2014. Teachers will be meeting to hold off site “study sessions” with their union on Monday with plans to move to a full strike on Tuesday, June 17th, 2014. Although there will be no picket lines up Monday, schools will be without teaching staff and unable to offer a full program of instruction or to provide adequate levels of supervision. It is expected that picket lines will be in place from Tuesday forward. In the interest of student safety, parents are asked not to bring students to schools until further notice. Bus service will be interrupted by the job action, and buses will not be running next week.
At this time there are still plans for government exams for students in Grades 10 – 12 to continue as scheduled. Information about exam times, bus runs, or any future developments in the job action, will be provided through the local media and our school district website www.prn.bc.ca.
Schools will remain accessible to the public during the strike action. Administrators will be on site to meet with parents, and to ensure safety and security protocols are met. Negotiations continue between the provincial government and the BCTF and we remain hopeful a settlement will soon bring this strike to an end. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation in this difficult time.
Sincerely
Dave SloanSuperintendent of Schools
In addition to strike action that will take place on the 16th until further notice, June 13th is a rotating strike day as well. In the interest of student safety, parents are asked not to bring students to schools until further notice.
